Step into the story of Long Island and experience history like never before with the Long Island History Hunt! A free, scavenger hunt-style adventure spanning 26 museums and historic landmarks from Brooklyn to Montauk.
Created in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, this year’s exciting theme, “Red Coats & Rebels,” brings the Revolutionary War era to life by spotlighting destinations connected to the American Revolution and the fight for independence.
Participants are encouraged to explore historic sites across the island, uncover hidden stories, and collect stamps along the way for a chance to win prizes, all while discovering the rich history that shaped Long Island and the nation.
We’re especially excited to share that Second House Museum has been selected as one of this year’s 26 featured locations! As one of Montauk’s most treasured historic landmarks, the museum offers visitors a unique glimpse into centuries of East End history and its ties to America’s past.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a local explorer, or planning the perfect summer road trip, the Long Island History Hunt is a fun and meaningful way to experience Long Island from a whole new perspective.

HOW IT WORKS
Running from May 23rd – September 30th, participants can head to LIHistoryHunt.com to register and browse the growing list of historic locations across Long Island. (The website is still being updated, so check back often for new additions and details!)
Here’s where the fun begins: at each site, players will search for a designated landmark or historic feature, snap a selfie, and upload it directly to the website to complete the challenge. Imagine standing beside a towering black walnut tree in front of a historic museum, one of the largest on Long Island, believed to date back to the American Revolution, and capturing the moment as part of your journey through history. As participants complete challenges, the website automatically tracks their progress, making it easy to see how many locations they’ve conquered. And there’s more than bragging rights on the line: there are multiple ways to win throughout the hunt. Explorers who visit all 26 historic sites will be entered for a chance to win the grand prize of $1,776, along with additional history-themed prizes and collectibles.
